In partnership with a local non-profit, The Sparkle Caps Project, which empowers and uplifts women in treatment for cancer, The Rainbow International Charity Golf Tournament of Columbia raises funds annually to benefit 3-4 local families whose mother’s have been diagnosed with stage IV cancer. The purpose of the golf tournament is to rally charitable members of the community along with local business partners and volunteers to come together for an entertaining event that celebrates family, gratitude and the determination to find a cure for cancer. 100 percent of the funds raised are donated to deserving families in hopes that they can focus their energy on fighting cancer, and less on the financial burden.

What started as a small charity tournament to raise funds for a family friend fighting breast cancer, Reed and Heather Mattingly’s tournament has since turned into a premier heart-felt community golf event that sheds light on others who are battling cancer within Columbia and the surrounding communities, while also continuing to make a significant financial impact for these families’ difficult and distressing journey over the last 8 years. Since its inception in 2012, The Rainbow International Charity Golf Tournament of Columbia has given away a little over $301,000 dollars and helped 18 families to find solace in a time of need. A true testament to the bond of the Columbia community, nearly 40 sponsors and 40 golf teams participate each year along with 40 volunteers who work tirelessly to provide peace of mind and ensure a smooth event throughout the day of the tournament.

The Rainbow International Charity Golf Classic benefits young, local mothers battling late-stage cancer. For the past four years, The Sparkle Caps Project has been the sponsor charity. The committee has grown to 21 people and includes two of the past recipients. Their involvement has provided a new perspective on the significance of this event.
This tournament has become a successful tradition because of the heartfelt support from businesses and individuals who share the common goal of supporting these young mothers and their families. Our goal is to provide support to these women and their families, so they can focus on their battles more and financial issues less. The 6th Annual Rainbow International Charity Golf Classic was held in May. We received an overwhelming amount of support and were blessed with the opportunity to benefit three young mothers and their families.
