Sport Clips Haircuts founder and executives join others to “Shave the Day” in support of St. Baldrick’s Foundation
Razors buzzed to life at the Sport Clips Haircuts National Huddle as more than 130 “Shave the Day” volunteers went bald and raised more than $110,000 in support of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation’s work in fighting childhood cancer. Sport Clips is St. Baldrick’s first national sponsor, and the franchise kicked off the partnership with an attempt to raise $50,000 and best a St. Baldrick’s record for number of heads shaved at the same time. Even Sport Clips Founder and CEO Gordon Logan, President Mark Kartarik, and Vice President of Operations Gordon Edward Logan got into the game, having their heads shaved and collectively raising more than $26,000, as part of the total, for the cause.
“This partnership is meaningful on so many levels, especially when we learned that one of our stylists has a young son fighting cancer,” says Martha England, vice president of marketing for Sport Clips. “Stylists at Sport Clips stores across the country have been participating in head shaving events for years. So, we decided to make it official and become a partner. It’s a good fit for us, since shaving heads is something we’re equipped and trained to do. And, we’re joining in the fight against cancer in local communities and nationally, like today, when we shaved heads at our own national convention.”
Derryk, son of a San Antonio Sport Clips stylist was the event’s “honored kid.” He was joined by Dr. Gregory Aune, himself a childhood cancer survivor and staff member at Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, who was on hand to cheer on the shavees. And, recognized haircare professional Robert Cromeans and David Wilks served as emcees for “Shave the Day.”
“The event was such a success, and we appreciate all of the San Antonians who came out to ‘shave the day!’ with us,” England says. “The exposure generated for St. Baldrick’s by breaking their record for the most heads shaved at one time, and far exceeding the fundraising goal we set toward the fight to fund research for a childhood cancer cure, is a win for all who participated!”
